AI for Software Engineering
Trace an existing code path, reproduce a bug and use AI assistance to deliver a verified fix.
Your practical result
A reviewed bug fix in a training codebase, with a regression test and a concise change explanation.
The outline below is built around this result. Final tools and setup instructions will be confirmed with the session details before registration opens.
Who this is for
Practicing developers and engineering teams comfortable navigating repositories and running tests.
What you’ll practice
- Use repository evidence to narrow a problem before requesting a change.
- Reproduce a defect and test the behavior a user actually needs.
- Review scope, failure cases and remaining risks before accepting a fix.
Your two-hour workshop outline
A guided demonstration, a substantial build exercise, and time to check the result. Times are approximate and include discussion.
- 0–10 min
Read the issue
Separate the reported symptom from the behavior the application should provide.
- 10–30 min
Trace the code path
Use AI to orient within the training repository, checking every important claim against source.
- 30–45 min
Reproduce the defect
Write a regression check that fails for the right reason.
- 45–85 min
Implement a focused fix
Constrain the assistant to the relevant path and verify the changed behavior.
- 85–105 min
Review failure cases
Inspect the diff, run neighboring checks and look for a fix that only hides the symptom.
- 105–120 min
Prepare the handoff
Write a short reviewer note explaining the cause, fix and verification.
Before you attend
- Experience reading an existing application, using Git and running an automated test suite.
- Use the supplied training repository rather than confidential production source code.
Tools and access
The coding assistant, language runtime and repository setup will be confirmed before registration. Access to paid assistants is not included unless stated for the session.
Delivery platform, location or joining instructions will be published with each confirmed session. Use practice material you have permission to share.
Your instructor
Elliott Lamboy
Elliott teaches these Texas AI Consulting workshops. The session is designed around a guided example, your own practice, and a review of the work produced.
Questions before you join
Can I bring an employer repository?
The shared exercise uses a training repository. Do not upload employer code, credentials or confidential data without the appropriate permission.
When is the next session, and what does it cost?
Dates and fees are coming soon. The planned window is Friday, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. America/Chicago. Ask about availability below; an inquiry does not reserve a seat.
What will be confirmed before I register?
The session date, fee, capacity, delivery platform, exact software requirements, and cancellation/refund terms will be available before registration opens. Recording or replay access is not currently promised.
Can my team request a private workshop?
Yes. Choose “A private group workshop” in the inquiry form and describe your goal or group size. Elliott can discuss availability and fit.
